West Memphis, AK - BASF today officially opened a new administration building for its manufacturing site in West Memphis, AK. The new building features 27 offices and a multi-purpose meeting room. This is the company’s first North America production building expected to achieve the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification. “This building reinforces the commitment of BASF to the West Memphis site, to our employees and to the community,” said Beate Ehle, president, market and business development, BASF North America. “It also demonstrates BASF’s strategic focus on sustainable development through the utilization of energy efficient construction materials and technologies – many of which are made possible through BASF chemistry.” Approximately 130 employees work at the West Memphis site, which began production in 1981. The products manufactured at the site are used in industrial and municipal water treatment processes, as well as various applications in the adhesives, coatings, energy, mining, paint, paper, petroleum, plastics and rubber industries. LEED is a designation of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to encourage and recognize high performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. |
