Wacker has added capability not readily found available in NAFTA countries with the purchase of the Engel Victory 100, two-shot injection press. Along with this machine, Wacker has invested in two Rico injection molds. With the addition of this two-shot press to the two other standard LSR injection machines, Wacker’s technical staff is positioned to help train customers on the specific benefits, advantages and usage of two-shot overmolding onto plastic. According to Dr. Wolfgang Schattenmann, Wacker Rubber Fabricators Business team director, this training capability will help participants learn the design flexibility and productivity advantages offered by overmolding liquid silicone rubber directly onto plastic components. “This truly is a unique, state-of-the-art injection molding process,” Schattenmann said. “It combines the exceptional properties of liquid silicone self-adhesive rubber material, the processing advantages of LSR, and couples them into a balanced plastic-injection process all in one operation.” Wacker invested in the two Rico injection molds for a very good reason. One mold allows specific testing of the bonding capabilities of the LSR material on to various thermoplastics. The second mold is a show piece to demonstrate the advantages of two-shot overmolding. In conjunction with this addition to Wacker’s Adrian, MI, fabrication lab, Wacker is offering a number of one-day symposiums. In cooperation with industry leaders from other sections of the LSR industry, these Wacker sponsored symposiums draw together the technology and know-how of bonding onto various plastic substrates, providing an opportunity for hands-on, in-laboratory and classroom learning experiences. For more information about this symposium and availability of dates or the full range of Wacker training opportunities, contact Ms. Ross at wacker-academy.usa@wacker.com |
