Rubber industry leaders in Asia thank RP for hosting 4th Rubber Conference

Leaders of the Rubber Industry in Asia conveyed their gratitude to the Philippines for hosting the 4th ASEAN Rubber Conference which opens Thursday when they paid a courtesy call on President Gloria MacapagalArroyo this afternoon at the Music Room in Malacanang.
4 p8 `' G* T6 A6 c; OThe heads of delegations from Malaysia, India, Vietnam, Singapore, China and Thailand were accompanied by Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Francis Chua and Trade Secretary Peter Favila in their visit to Malacanang.
8 b: |( x) X3 z: ^* f. hWe would like to thank you, Madam President , for giving us the opportunity to visit you in Malacanang. We would also want to thank the Philippines for hosting the 4th ASEAN Rubber Conference, the delegation head from China said.
Experts and industry practitioners from both natural rubber and synthetic rubber industries would start gathering today in Manila until June 7.
" Z) x4 D! B4 z1 k$ a4 M' BThe hosting of the conference is held in rotation among countries in the rubber planting hub of the worldthe ASEAN region.
# O' c( {& X) \: |, s  Z8 |1 TIt is the only event that brings together ** and industry, with about 700 participants from 25 countries, converging to discuss commercial and economic issues, latest supply and demand trends, and price forecasts for 2008-2009.
3 M+ _5 q. {) b) |2 D8 b& hChua said the theme of the conference for this year is Status and Emerging Trends of the Natural Rubber Industry in the Current Global Economic Situation.
; K* K- z' z0 n$ L9 ]5 tThe event is fully supported by the Philippine Rubber Industries Association (PRIA), acting as the Strategic Presenting Partner while the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Yokohama Tire Inc. are the local supporters of the event.
Endorsers are the Association for Rubber Development of Cambodia (ARDC), Thai Rubber Association (TRA), Vietnam Rubber Association (VRA) and All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA).
Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap said natural rubber, given its vast industrial uses and premium price in the global market, offers huge potentials as Philippine agricultures premier export product, creator of jobs and incomes in the rural areas, and source of ** revenues.
In fact, prospects are bright for rubber farmers around the world as global consumption is expected to reach 31.8 million tons by 2020, an increase of around 10 million from the 2006 level.
Viable areas for rubber production in the Philippines included Sultan Kudarat, Isabela, Maguindanao, Benguet, Camarines Sur, Palawan, Antique, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, and Mindoro Occidental.
1 b' F" h" `; k# ]Last year, the national rubber production jumped by 15 percent to 404,000 MT worth P15.43 billion (roughly $ 376 million), from 351,000 MT valued at P12.3 billion (about 300 million dollars) in 2006.
