王梦蛟教授小传(Meng-Jiao Wang's Biography)6 ?7 j" W H2 V5 x
. ?1 o. j2 U( zMeng-Jiao Wang began his career in rubber research in 1964 after graduating in Physical Chemistry from Shandong University and joining the Beijing Research and DesignInstitute of the Rubber Industry, China. He soon rose to become head of the Institute’s basic research group. By 1982, he published some 45 papers, as well as co-authoring several books in Chinese, and translating 5 other books on rubber technology from English to Chinese. He was also a member of Editorial Board of the journal, Acta Polymerica Sinica, China. He won numerous awards in China for his research achievements in aging, vulcanization, reinforcement and rheological properties of rubbers mainly related to tire applications. In 1982, Meng-Jiao moved to France to work at the CNRS in Mulhouse. His work there on surface modifications and characterization of silica for rubber reinforcement led to several significant papers, and a Doctoral degree (Docteur d'Etat es Sciences), which was awarded in 1984. He then spent a year as a visiting scientist working at the University of Akron on a Goodyear-sponsored project. In 1986, Meng-Jiao returned to his Institute in China to become a professor and Chief Engineer, the top scientific position in the organization. During this spell, he published 10 more papers on rubber technology and became Editor-in-Chief of the journal, China Rubber Industry. He was also a member of Directorate Board of Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China and a member of the Scientific and Technologica Committee of the Ministry of Chemical Industry, China. From 1988 to 1989 he worked at the German Institute for Rubber Technology (DIK) as a visiting scientist on a Degussa-sponsored project. Later he joined Degussa as a Senior Scientist. During almost 5 years with Degussa, he published 25 papers, including some of his most significant contributions on surface characterization of rubber fillers and fillerfiller, filler-polymer interactions and their effects on rubber reinforcements. In December 1993, Meng-Jiao moved again to the United States to join Cabot as a Senior Member Technical Staff (the highest technical title that time). In his 13 years at Cabot, his fundamental work has addressed the effect of fillers on dynamic properties, microelasto-hydrodynamic lubrication and abrasion resistance of filled vulcanizates. His research has led to an improved understanding of the mechanisms involved in the three critical aspects of tire performance, namely rolling resistance, wet skid resistance and wear resistance. He won Cabot’s Excellence Award in 1998 for his work on rubber reinforcement by fillers and on the development of new fillers. He has also a member of the team received an award for the development of Cabot elastomer composite (CEC), a NR/carbon black masterbatch produced with a continuous liquid phase mixing. His work on silicone rubber reinforcement with fumed silica has also been recognized by Cabot. In 2000 he was appointed Research Fellow, the company’s highest scientific position. Over his 40-year career in rubber research, Meng-Jiao Wang has published over 130 scientific papers, 9 book chapters, and he has 30 different US patents to his name. He coedited the book "Carbon Black: Science and Technology" and co-authored 6 other books. He has presented numerous papers at ACS Rubber Division Meetings and international conferences. He is currently a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Rubber Chemistry and Technology. He was the winner of the Melvin Mooney Distinguished Technology Award, 2006, the second highest award in the rubber community of the world.Meng-Jiao is married to Ms Peifei Zhang and has two sons. His hobbies are reading, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese seal curving and stamp collecting.- n* o; e3 I7 }4 W
