Volkswagen chooses ExxonMobil polyolefins for bumpers, interiors

Houston - A new grade of Exxtral performance polyolefins from ExxonMobil Chemical has been selected for the interior trim of the recently launched Volkswagen up!. Exxtral BMU146E polyolefin, used for interior trunk components of the up!, exhibits no tackiness and a scratch resistance that meets Volkswagen requirements. This new interior trim grade also provides good surface appearance, low density for reduced weight and the right balance of impact and stiffness. Exxtral BMU130 performance polyolefin grades have been selected for the front and rear bumper fascia of the Volkswagen Passat being manufactured in the U.S. Exxtral BMU130A polyolefin, providing good processability and paintability, is being used for the painted bumper fascia. Exxtral BMU130D polyolefin, offering very good surface appearance without “tiger stripes,” is being used for the unpainted bumper (or spoiler). This follows the successful use of Exxtral™ BMU130 polyolefin for the Volkswagen Golf 6 bumper in Europe.
