Pirelli to expand its UK activities

Pirelli has committed to the expansion of its activities in the UK. The company is investing £11.4 million in research and development, which will create 37 new jobs.

A further £9 million is to be invested in new process machinery for volume production at its Carlisle, UK plant. The facility, which employs 750 members of staff, currently produces a total of around 9,000 tires per day and 3,100,000 tires per annum. 80% of these are for the replacement market and 20% for the OEM market. In 2011, 68% of tires produced at the Carlisle factory were for the SUV market.

& z7 M3 c* F0 U% s9 U; A  z6 @2 VIn 2012 the average tire produced has weighed approximately 15kg, with the largest products 20kg each, up from an average of 12.5kg in 2006. This has already resulted in upgrades to the plant's machinery, processes and infrastructure
