Smithers to purchase environmental sciences group from Covance

$ M! T* Y" q" d  lAkron, OH - The Smithers Group agreed to purchase the Environmental Sciences Group (ESG) from Covance Laboratories. Providing world-class scientific and regulatory expertise in product registration and risk assessment, the Environmental Sciences Group serves clients in the agrochemical, pharmaceutical, industrial chemical and animal health industries. Based in Harrogate, U.K., ESG has been providing services for over 35 years. ESG employs approximately 60 associates. “The Environmental Sciences business represents a tremendous strategic fit for Smithers,” commented Michael Hochschwender, president and CEO of Smithers. “We have long respected the expertise and capabilities of this group and we are excited about what this acquisition means for our clients in terms of a broader range of services.” Recognized globally, the Environmental Sciences Group provides a comprehensive range of environmental services, including ecotoxicology, environmental fate, plant metabolism, animal metabolism, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, residue chemistry, regulatory affairs, risk assessment and project management. The agreement, signed May 2, is expected to close in 30 days.
