! ]7 S$ @! V* h# `' G2 I; vSo he could never have imagined the rude shock that awaited him after making the 1900km journey from Beachport to Sunnyside front gate in 2013 to manage the 1000ha sheep and cattle property at Wheatvale.
"I had no idea how bad it was going to be," he said.
4 x+ A* o, B# L- P/ jThe first attack was in April 2013, when he lost up to 11 sheep at a time.
4 D2 l' v9 l3 F8 i6 @Mr Millard quickly became involved in the Southern Downs Regional Council baiting program, renowned by his neighbours for never missing a date.
. X- Q: X7 h- aBut after another round of attacks in late April this year Mr Millard decided enough was enough.
Taking matters into his own hands, he taught himself how to trap.
"I was putting out 80 baits around here on Sunnyside, but I had to do more because the dogs were still attacking," he said.
The experienced rabbit and fox trapper sought help from local Warwick trapper Gary Jackson,gcusbc.org/Portals/_default/MergedTemplate/college.html.
; g9 |# `$ ~; W"He showed me how to set a trap and gave me a few pointers," he said.
! v# F; z9 h8 n" F: i"He explained that dogs don like running on rough ground so I stuck to cattle or vehicle tracks leading up to the scrub behind Leslie Dam. I fairly certain that where a lot of mine are coming from."
: T. t) a4 s! k0 m  \) wOne night Mr Millard was at home, with the a haul of new traps due to be set in the morning, when he heard his own dog barking   a wild dog had launched an attack less than 100m from his house. So Mr Millard set five traps on the Friday and by Saturday he had caught his first dog.
"I heard about the dogs up here but it not until you see what they do to the sheep, and the time and money lost, that you realise," he said.

Since May, Mr Millard and his 18 year old son Curtis have caught seven dogs,toughguylanes.com/controls/CountryListBox/Data/cloth.html, the most recent of which was trapped on August 13.
8 e2 ?" |- \$ \( fThough the pair have made significant inroads in the fight against dogs in recent months, there is still a long way to go.
He will bait again this week, in between working to re establish the electric boundary fence.
Mr Millard estimates between 10km to 20km of electric fence is yet to be fixed.
"It a lot of work but it what you have to do to stop the dogs from killing your income," he said.
Mountain Maid Wild Dog Destruction Group chairman Peter Cleary congratulated Mr Millard and his son Curtis on their efforts.
