Fayetteville, NC - The Goodyear tire plant in Fayetteville may shut down for a week in August to reduce its inventory in the slow economy, The Fayetteville Observer reported. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. spokesman Richard Evans says officials have discussed shutting down for a week if the market does not improve. Evans says layoffs are not part of the discussion. The plant’s 2,800 workers make about 35,000 tires daily. All workers except maintenance staff took off the week of June 30 through July 6 for a scheduled shutdown.
