York, PA - Engel North America has delivered a technologically advanced thermoset rubber injection molding system to Mainsail Global, a division of Hiawatha Rubber, Minneapolis, MN. Specialists in the compression-transfer molding of rubber components for business equipment, pumps and medical equipment for nearly 60 years, Mainsail Global’s brand-new, computer-controlled Engel elast 2000/440H US press is the centerpiece of what will be a fully automated manufacturing cell engineered for the cost-effective, cold-runner/stack-mold production of rubber components for waste-water treatment systems. “Our traditional compression-transfer molding equipment would not have been a cost-effective method for producing this particular product,” says Howard Hauser, vice president of operations at Hiawatha Rubber. “After the parts are molded they are robotically removed, sprue-clipped and placed on a conveyor, which transports them to the next station where a robot picks them up for pre-programmed laser engraving. Once engraved, the same robot transfers the parts to a stamping machine where they’re perforated, and then it stacks them in a box, which is automatically sealed. The entire process is fully automated. |
